After checkout:

  autoreconf --install --force
./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --mandir=/usr/share/man 

Compile:
  make

Onle once (if you did not have configuration files in /etc; if you have, they
will be overwritten!):
  make installconf
